Usually get a good fortune yeah I'm the best at the time whenever you're ready can I see parents can email me a suggestion just request. it is true form again just one in Spanish and in English as well if I need a chance going to the lausd.net website a little bit easier for you. digital application on there as well go with you I'm about here as soon as school is dismissed students are to report to myself and to the other cultures usually we meet up in the cafeteria area so they are definitely supposed to check in with us and make sure you know I leave for Coach visibly sees them and honestly that's how we check in at the moment at the moment I don't know exactly how many sentence I have but definitely SMS students are able to choose what program within the beyond the bell they want to be in so we do have a sports program we have a tutoring program and then hopefully soon we'll have a dance one of everything that I know Burrows Play Time include as well so we kind of like piggyback on whatever their learning during the school three main big one that I definitely want parents to know what our room is students are not allowed to leave campus they cannot be going outside for a little bit with her friends that are not in the program and then come with us after they are to immediately check in with the fact that the bee on the bus if we do give them snacks so they do have for open I believe that's all that's available for them as well, but we give them free snacks after that first to the program another mean rules obviously respect from all cultures and students third one is there's no outside food available for Uber Eats is a big Stingray how are Postmates that's definitely a No-No for the students again like I said they have the door open or we could provide free food for them as well other than that coach Jessica there was one question that I thought was very important can a student walk home after the beyond the bell program or does a parent have to pick them up there is a section where does they my student can leave on their own or a parent will for sure always pick them up I can communication is key with us for some reason nobody will be able to pick them up. does that mean you're one of the coaches know that you know he is free to go home and Coach Jessica where can parents pick up the form for your program a conviction go to the LAUSD that website and just search up you on the bail application it'll be there and then they can just email me at Jessica. She's helping us some shoes some opportunities for your children to be college and career-ready SAS program I am Title One program do you have both their emails are Mississippi also works at the Weekend Update that we have in Korean in Spanish to language we have to do language programs yet she will also be the point person for parent support parent volunteers left the tickets and all those items alright so you know we've been really active it broke and we won both the state and national awards and we look forward to continued and in excelling and trying to overcome has has caused some issues with with online learning and we're going to address that I should begin the new school year we had like I said we have a very big First Citizen in robotics and drama Orchestra where you believe there's a possibility that we made partner up with Cedar-Sinai this year to offer a field trip experience for some of our students we're always looking to see how we can provide the best opportunity for students to excel when are they are going to be entrepreneurs or where they're going to go to college and the reason why is because we have a sander of excellence and we don't rest environment is something that that will not be allowed and will be addressed with you until this letter is just simply there notify it's also in the parents so you'll see the same information in the past I'm still having traffic code of the next slide is a uniform answering a question about jewelry there is no specific dress code on jewelry but if it's if it needs any of that criteria we would be dealing with that correctly and we know that I can cause harm is Lapine remember this is the Middle School so if it's something that that can can can cause harm that's something that we will talk to you but in general as as long as he's not disrupted by it doesn't disrupt the cops it's not having noticing that I'm wearing and then gets all in that or or something you know that caused the injury that we have to do what we have to do social distancing we can expect students out and that potentially does mean that we may have to go in the sun and so are allowed to bring hats but only for outdoor wearing for like when they go out to lunch they can wear it and then I Optimum to go in the classroom if you would like to have your child have a hatch once it's going to cost from they have to put it in your backpack we do ask that you don't have any logo you would you know sometimes we have a president realize that a certain level represented something to do ask that you have if you can ask your child to wear a hat that they don't have any logos on them and if you can spare to Art School colors white khaki and green we would appreciate that we do understand too much fun and so things like that will be allowed with exceptions of course and guidelines and so this letter describes all of that for you as well to this will also be in our welcome letter as well to come again if you have any questions not it's not mandatory to wear school uniform bed as you can guess you know that decision was made by the committee community that exclude uniform has a learning experience at Burroughs Middle School if you have a difference of opinion. That's fine. Just contact me about that will having a discussion with you and and talk about our opted out to see you this but but like I said most of you chose Burroughs for reason and Squid next is a big part of John Burroughs middle school and again and again if you have a good let's have a conversation with you and we begin that process by talking with mr. I'm a doctor Martinez. we're getting some answers about where to get the uniforms you can get it Sonic flight so here are examples the school uniform now if you notice in Big Red Letters here it says the tired need not be purchased through the school you don't have to buy them from the school nor do they have to have the School logo on it what we is is that you best match as fast as possible the colors and as you can see the top is green like a dark green or olive green and white and what we call a polo with you which has the yellow color and the bottom is as you can see we chose two different shades of a brown there yet khaki and Anna from someplace to describe your stand and I don't know what else but we understand it you know Independent Bank is a lot of issues going on you know if you're shopping for clothing for your time these are the colors that we ask that you just met you don't have to get them through the school you can get them cheaper elsewhere at a lower price I swear he's a Pious and the same thing with a ticket if you can match it is gray anywhere from a light gray to dark gray and the green shorts and again you don't have to buy them from the school and that you don't have to have logos on them okay all right bell schedule you want I can do that. So basically at the every single day the school starts at the same time dog at 7:49 is when the first Bell for the school day will Begin by the time 7:57 comes around that indicate that that's the tardy Bell so you want your student to hear at on campus by 7 for night I know dr. Martinez and we're discussing but we will be opening campus right around 7:30 by dr. Martinez okay and that is when we were first getting their daily passes in order for everyone to come on how to safely know the regular school day dismissal is usually at 249 and parents at this time we will be asking all parents to be waiting outside for their students I'm every Tuesday movie forward it will be a 125 dismissal and we've tried to keep that consistent so that it's not as confusing and I know that it can get confusing when we have minimum days and however the first 3 days of school August 16th August 17th and August 18th will be a minimum day 12/24 Day schedule and we just need that time sure that everything at 3 are such a large campus that all the classes and all the teachers are settled for the new school year and a reminder Monday August 16th and Wednesday August 17th will be a minimum day dismissal and we only have a few of them throughout the school year but we are starting the first 3 days with minimum days dr. Martinez we now are at lunch and what lunch will look like for the for our student you have a lunch bell schedule for waiting for approval from the district normally during the school year we have two lunches the first line is only fixed rates to him and it happened before the 2nd seventh and eighth-grade students now in order to really try to maximize social distancing we need to break up the 7th and 8th grade lunch want to split them so we sent a schedule to the district once we have it hopefully we have it we will post it next week if that occurs what's going to happen is there will be three lunches at Burroughs Middle School there will be a lunch for 6th grade 7th grade and they wear a big school over 1,500 students right now and it's bigger than us and Palms yes I love it hard enough and as you know if you are aware of the middle schools on the westside those are the top three performing middle schools in so we have big attend so we're going to request we split the lunches out so that we can spread our students out during lunch are we did a walk through the campus yesterday and we're looking for places that we can put a digital tables and chairs out depending on what the requirements are we may go up between 6 to 3 ft of social distancing for lunch lunch would probably be there at the high-risk time right at the time that seems to have their mask on the time they'll be eating and talking and yelling in the middle school so we are doing our best to figure out how we can spread out the lunch area and how we can cut down the number of students in her lunch off for now it is the best that we can do without affecting other. Meaning losing I feel like if we extended additional lunch or broke it down even further we starting coaching on instructional time which means the student to do Lazada mattering you know we can't do that we are required to have a certain amount of instructional minute so natural working on for lunch and that's why I said the goal be a sped students out and some of them you know we do have a lot of shape but there's some spots where you don't have a lot of shade so they will be able to wear the the hex you're with is that with within the if you want that if not we are going to church if you have them in the shade as much as possible all right that see her fighting students or it will the student store be open for snack purchases as well my guess is that it's not going to go as fast everything we have to do things like that so if it will be open but it's not it may not be a fashion show another word we may have long lines that mean I get a draft felt remember a child's primary meal we are offering it here and at the student store as a primary meal and I I think some parents are asking if they can send lunch with their child Stacks we don't consider that Neil's those are snacks and so if the child can't get a sack we will ask if they've eaten at least took make sure that they get him you haven't had a triple A make sure that they get something to eat from the cafeteria but the shooting star is first action other items but I hope that you know that the facts are that the meal you want to turn into Romeo and then the cafeteria sister back and we will do our best to have to since they're open and fell but then they make it close early or they may be manager with another school I also worked at Mark Twain middle school as well too so they're there maybe some days we're maybe close I'm going to see a lot of school supplies in a I'm going to tell you in general we provide everything that your child needs to have an education so generally we don't encourage. what up buying supplies because again if it's pencils and color pencils we can supply that for the teachers to house we don't want families to feel like to have to go out and buy a bunch of things you know if there is a question of that creepy about whenever you ministrator but in general anything that your child needs taxes are there the kitchen we have here you're welcome to buy additional items on your own sets of whatever you eaten would how would I know I know that is and I I will do that but there are no mandatory requirements and if you let me know so I can discuss that with the teacher show up we're not telling teachers to post mandatory list online you make the things on that that that you recommend I think Friday will be a free day so that's the area that you may see some teachers posting where we at now if you can speak to the coin of a student classrooms in fifth grade good morning thank you my sweet thank you dr. Martinez so we know there are a lot of questions around how do the programs look like you know Middle School is very very different than Elementary School in elementary school and to have the one teacher once we get to Middle School at our school our teachers are cord into so they have basically kids have partners and that they will cover the academic and in addition to that they have a PE teacher and so you'll have a teacher who covers you know English and history and then you'll have the other teacher who will cover Math and Science and one of them cover is also the elective which is a college horse and then in addition as I said before they have a PE teacher so that is what a sixth grader can expect to have when they come to our school I'm in 7th and 8th grade obviously you don't you make the big leap from the seventh and eighth you have multiple teachers you know you have we tried to do it to the extent possible to keep our teachers and seems so that they can kind of all become familiar with the same bench and all kind of know you're feeling very well and so.. Point kids have a different teacher for each of the content areas I know they will probably get to this later but a lot of people are concerned about what teachers children were and we are going to first and foremost insurer that your kids know where they need to go first in the priority for that is homeroom and so we will be sharing that information if you will be coming to pick up textbooks with your kids thank you we will have that homeroom information available for you when you do pick up book and then of course we will be sending a connected message which will go through phone if we have your email address already we will also be sending it through you an email or a text depending on if you chose you to receive information that way as well so we will have multiple ways to communicate that information to you and again why is that important because that will be the first class your kid will go to once they're there they will be receiving a schedule which will tell them what their other classes are okay and so as we said in case you didn't attend last week's meeting if for whatever reason you you don't get a Kinect message you don't get an email you don't get a text and for whatever reason you miss the homeroom number next week you lost the number what-have-you we all have that information on the first day of school and we will ensure that your kids get to class and we understand even 7th graders East graders especially because they haven't been in school they may not even remember where the classrooms are it's okay we will be here to make sure that all the kids get wherever I need to go we will have staff members in yellow vest your kids or a walkie-talkie and if you're confused you don't know where to call you don't remember where to go we will make sure they to the right place again it's it's very important that you want that you do your best as parents to remind your kids you know it's going to be fine just make sure you're wearing your mask you have to be wearing your after all times I'd be practicing kids have been staying at home a lot you know. Haven't really been going on make sure they're practicing and how to maintain that mask on because they do have to be wearing that mask so there's little things you can do like that remind them it's going to be okay there will be staff here to make sure they get to the right classes around have you time to send me an email if there's a specific concern Incubus armendariz and in case parents as I know especially as we are transitioning into Middle School all of a sudden you just have one teacher you have several different teachers and I know as you know I'm a parent of an elementary school student and every single year we are just two different teachers and their expectations and now we're just pulling that right for my 7th grade parents and a paper all the sudden we have no six teachers do is at any point in time you do want to speak with your teacher about any concerns or just introduce yourself to additional me what we had in the main office was a yellow conference request form and you could put up you that however now the best way is through email teachers will be giving their shoulders and in their syllabus as you can how many are you can see their contact information but also on our website you will also see if there's a list of all our staff members and their emails so you are free to email members are teachers at any point in time however did you email them later on in the evening just expect the public to be answering you the next day and two students also have a way of emailing teachers directly through schoology as well another way of communicating what did you do this with your counselor or a great level of ministrator so again I'm the sixth grade administrator with armendariz currently is our 8th grade administrator and mr. quotes that will be our 7th grade administrator you have again if your concerns are not being addressed by either the teacher you gone to the counselor and you gone to the grade-level administrator at that point in time you are all your principal but if you have a consensus we were the teacher that's how we would elevate it our year school year is divided into two semesters or first after is the fall semester begins in August and the traditionally ends in December so that if idolizes the first semester grades are second semester traditionally begin when we come back in January and ends in June and within each semester we have for grading. So and it's it's / week 5 week you will get our first progress report card 2nd of June 10th week you will get a second progress report card the 15 week will be your final progress report card and the final report card that stays kind of in your in the system and on your child record will be this semester report card grades and that will be issued the final day of the second of the first semester which is December 17th the second semester report card grade raise our Again by we got in February 10th week in March 15th week is in April and the final one and this is the most important grade fourth grade year for your grade level all Grace are cumulative and all incoming 6th graders will be held to a credit-based system which basically means students will need to have a minimum of a c average in all classes and again cumulative from 6th 7th and 8th grade alright important ways in which we communicate our message to our parents we have our website we have a Twitter also through Schoology traditionally we had an important Day flyer that was sent home on a monthly basis but depending of because we're obviously with Cole that we don't know if we're going to be passing out flyers but anything that happens on a weekly basis you will be receiving a weekly connected message I know many of you have started receiving them already and weekly bulletin to teachers and also given out to our staff members and a year at a glance calendar that have very important dates for our school will be available in your parent packet all right so doctor Martinez I will return it back to user so I believe we were younger but in the meantime give me a can we get the textbook schedule to share with our parents I'll put it up here so we do have other opportunities for parent involvement we have a ballet program if you have that we're going to ask for volunteers soon we do have we're always big on supervision here at school we have advisory committee of the English learner advisory committee School site Council committee and Poppy like all authorized budget spending. 2 per account so it's an important group that you're part of local school district teacher plenty of opportunities for parents to get involved and I do believe we may be recording for parents to be in by the district-level are too as well so if you are interested. Look out for that information and please volunteer we have coffee with the principal on a monthly basis information with you. still waiting for coffee with principal to ask questions or if you have any contact information we are always looking for a minute. You don't just wait until is the Compensation Program concern we have a lot of parents recently posted a Cedar-Sinai pen works for return to school I don't know if we can put that flyer up here but I had to look at my website and we are beginning to offer sometime workshops as well for now they're beginning online and that's something I have to make sure I emphasized is that all the information is as of today I know have you been monitoring the news I just find a chat room I mean you've realized that concerned that your child has been vaccinated we have to be flexible it's one of the reasons why next week and one are you are best to pass up textbooks if we have the we will pass her iPads as well to we just don't know what's going to happen in a couple weeks will be wanted fully prepared for that so I do know that as of today if any changes we won't be walked at you I did see some questions about the Avengers I unfortunately do not have information on that as you may have heard if you opt out of coming to John Burroughs Middle School in person have the option of signing up for City of Angels but you they have a website that information you have any questions you would have to ask them they will not be John Burroughs Middle School teacher they will be other teachers and you will be in Rome in a different program. get the book I did see that and I did some high school with some type of we're not doing that no it but we do as we are doing the screening as you're coming in to make sure and in your art of being the things that makes it stand apart from other schools that have I are iPads have data plans on it information when does school year start and if there's any issues with the iPads will have another team that will be available to to make sure we get that done and we had hired attendance rate for online schoology and why the reasons is because you were an I-Pass when we've been a technology school for at least 67 years and so we tend to be ahead of the curve and do things and report it to me in Italian. switch to online learning immediately because all the time real quick because I do I do I
