John Burroughs Gifted Magnet has been named a Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America, a prestigious national honor recognizing exceptional achievement in academics, diversity, innovation, and whole-child development.
Serving high-achieving students from across the Los Angeles area, John Burroughs Gifted Magnet offers a rigorous and engaging program focused on critical thinking, creativity, and leadership. The magnet emphasizes differentiated instruction, advanced coursework, and enriched learning experiences in computer science, music, and drama within a culturally diverse and inclusive community.
The Gifted Magnet has previously earned Magnet Schools of America’s Award of Excellence in 2018 and 2023, and the School of Distinction in 2025. The program is also proud to contribute to the broader schoolwide recognitions earned by John Burroughs Middle School, including the California PBIS Coalition Platinum Award (2025), U.S. News & World Report “Best Middle School” designation (2025), inclusion on the Educational Results Partnership National Honor Roll (2024), and the National “Schools to Watch” Award (2023).
