To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.

Burroughs MS Title 1 School Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy is developed by the School Site Council (SSC) members that represent Title 1 students and families.  SSC  members review the content and effectiveness of the school level policy annually and assist in making adjustments and/or changes to fit the current school year.  Printed copies can be requested in the main office.

Burroughs MS School-Parent Compact for Achievement is developed by the School Site Council (SSC) memebers that represent Title 1 students and families.  SSC  members reviews data, the content of the previous school-parent compact and evaluate the effectiveness of the language and strategies written in the school-parent compact.  SSC members assist in making adjustments and/or changes to fit the current school year so that the School-Parent Compact reflects the needs of the school community.  Printed copies can be requested in the main office.

Title I school. The District’s Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy was
developed with and agreed upon by Los Angeles Unified parents and family
members of Title I students (see Attachment B). Parents review the content and
effectiveness of the District’s policy annually with the Region FACE Units and the

Leader In Me is a program we are starting at JBMS that teaches leadership & life skills to students based on the idea that every child can be a leader.
