Dual Language Program

John Burroughs Middle School currently offers students an opportunity to continue learning Korean or Spanish via our Dual Language programs. Participation in a Dual Language program provides our students with opportunities to achieve higher levels of language proficiency by participating in the Bilingual Seal of Literacy for California, and be prepared to enter and compete in the global economy. All students benefit and thrive in dual language and bilingual programs.

The advantages of these programs are for life and include:
Intercultural competences with greater awareness
Understanding of other cultures
Better problem-solving ability and capacity for taking decisions
Greater academic performance and flexibility cognitive
Strong family and cultural connection to build bridges between family members and the community

Enrollment Eligibility and Priorities for Dual Language and Bilingual Programs: All students living within and outside the LAUSD boundaries are eligible to apply for dual language and bilingual programs. Students residing outside the boundaries of the school district must obtain an inter-district entry permit when accepting an assignment. Please note that transportation is not provided for dual language and bilingual programs. If there are more applicants than spaces available, a lottery will be held and seats will be assigned in order of priority. Once an assignment has been offered, the parent should contact the school to ensure that the applicant meets the target language proficiency requirements.
