hello welcome to John Burroughs Middle School my name is Susan armendariz and I'm one of the assistant principal here how do you can tell we're a long mccadden place right in front of our beautiful main building before we get started on your virtual culmination ceremony actually want you to come and take a look at some of your greatest movement from the last 3 years here we are on the second floor of our main building mini band Orchestra and theater performances took place here during your time at John Burroughs Middle School Asia Ruby Lee which is on his new space it is Jay-Z's augmented reality room did you know it's the only one and all of LAUSD come on let's go take a look here we are on the field this is where most of it is also the site of our 8th grade green and gold football game Patriots took part in this annual tradition during the fall semester John Burroughs middle school has a number of Innovations on one campus the Makerspace room is one of them let's go take a look inside here we are at room 126 the all-girls stem and robotic Kostner 23rd great strawberry here we are in the main office number or the famous nature and conservationists 2017 that are School 7th grade school year middle school with Mimi designated as a school to watch by the California legal middle school we were only one at 16 middle school and I'm the only one in for 2018 we conclude our journey here by revisiting activities that took place in the auditorium like Ceremonies for organizations such as njhs Attleboro Middle School always believe in a college going Coulter University for some of you this may have been the first time you stepped foot on a college campus we were through the board of school buses the world of hiring let's begin Burroughs Middle School class of 2020 virtual culmination ceremony welcome honored guests and fellow Charlie John Burroughs Middle School nice out the pleasure of being your eighth-grade president I pledge allegiance to the flag United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all and now we have the music play the Star Spangled Banner it is my pleasure to introduce our first combination speaker Chad sestito dr. Martinez by principal teacher parents who taught me good morning my name is Todd to pick me though I find it weird that I'm giving to your camera the coronavirus pandemic few months ago I would never have thought things like this for the topping but things change and reaching every second of Our Lives their learning and look. Yourself in 6th grade I remember how nervous I was studying Middle School for the first time we are getting tons of work and I'm not really hard fun projects like making a comic book or acting out of clay in 7th grade I remember that we had a history project or you had to throw the paper mache mask and the science experiment where he made me slowed East, something new and shaping who I am today I also had many teachers that talk me out like mr. Mitchell son I missed your calls. I want to be just like that world of learning rise up wise up General again united we are stronger when we did it National Junior Honor Society president so pleased to introduce our administrator Ealy parents Guardians and culminating class of 2020 my name is Debbie Lee and I am one of the assistant principals at John Burroughs middle school today I have the distinct privilege of introducing for special guests who aren't their amoni David council member for district for Rob Fisher field deputy and Community planner for district for Dr George McKenna board member of district one and Nick melvoin board member for district for you congratulations on your graduation from middle school you want to say how proud I am of you all I know things are right now and you might not be able to celebrate as usual but do not let that detract from your achievement you and your families have worked hard to reach you should be very proud of all you so congratulations and I can't wait to see what you all achieve hi John Burroughs Rob Fisher field deputy and Community planner for remember my dog to me here is one of them graduated from John Burroughs and myself and the entire Council District we want to give our heartfelt congratulations number 6 that on the next chapter of your life the graduates friends family faculty and distinguished virtual guest I know this isn't the end of middle we were hoping for and certainly not the photo off your parents were hoping for and I'm truly sorry it'll be a different kind of memorable to know that you were the first 8th grade class to ever graduate virtually and it has given me hope to see students like you making the best of scary tuition by continuing to learn taking care of others and staying positive and I see how amazing your parents and teachers have been even when they might be quite overwhelmed it's okay to feel a little scared right now being brave isn't the absence of fear having that beer with finding a way through it and your resilience makes me feel confident that we will all find them so congratulations to the first ever virtual graduate I expect many more congratulations John Burroughs chromatin class of 2020 no I am mrs. Bradley and it has been my honor to be your counselor for two and a half years let me Begin by saying I miss your smiling you faces more than words can say I know it's only been about 5 months but it feels like an eternity and a lot has happened in this short. But I wasn't remember how far you have come since the sixth grade. Seen so much growth over time and I'm so proud of you and let's continue to from where we are and as we do that I want you to push on with perseverance and passion remember that grit and review quickly as you move on to high school Colin and Beyond being resourceful you have the ability within you to tackle whatever obstacles you say at the same time don't be afraid to ask for help continue to be driven do the work never give up never give up on your dreams because there is no do what you can accomplish the author Michael Benjamin said believe in the power of yes exam practice game I don't understand geometry geometry concepts yes I don't know how to solve this problem yes open mind and keep working on getting it out because you will I believe in you and it's okay to be uncomfortable as your tackling and struggling and learning and we think about what's happening now in this country I want you to continue to stand up for what is right be an agent don't let others make a difference for you makes a difference to make a difference for the greater good ask my students do you want to be when you grow up I don't ask that silly question anymore we never reach a point where we stop learning and stop growing in the words of my Michelle Obama we are all becoming know that I love you I miss you I'm so proud of you but continue to be safe always it would be great joy to introduce our warm-hearted and fun counselor that they're so I look like a first and foremost congratulations you did it I know I wasn't your counselor at the beginning of your time here at John Burroughs but I'm honored to be your counselor here that you'll be ending with I've had the privilege to get to know many of you through the years and I just believe it's all over what a year I'm sure by now you know that life can be unpredictable at 2020 with full of surprises at times things don't go according to plan but we must learn to adapt to figure out a way to move forward and that's what you did don't let Life Unexpected turns discourage you but use it as a learning moment as you move on to high school and Beyond I hope that you will always find a way to move forward I'm so proud of you all again congratulations class of 2020 it is now time to hear from our dedicated and the Corral when I think of 2020 it's hard not to reflect on the collected loss and pain we locked up with you to the pandemic but we've also witnessed such acts of compassion and bravery from so many individuals you show great person and coping with a new learning environment became a thing and you advocated. I have seen so many of you that at the finest and fairness on the basketball court with classroom and with your friend so I'm confident that you will continue to display these traits take home about, Cloverdale encouraged an optimistic that you will find the season to Equitable future for everyone but 2020 will be remembered for the pandemic the class of 2020 will also be remembered for being the Agents of change moving forward thank you for being part of the change and congratulations to you all hi and I would like to extend an enthusiastic Aitkin Minnesota good morning class of 2020 I want it first of all they can graduations on this day it's been three years in the making and it's a long time coming with that being said I also want to put two words for you guys cuz remember the first one is challenge and that's the ability to invite someone to do something that they think is difficult or impossible I know these are trying times but you have met that challenge you at the comfy and put your best foot forward and now you got the culminating moving on to high school the second one is a responsibility and that's the ability to act independently and make a decision without authorization and that basically puts it all on you guys to continue moving forward except the calendars are being put before you in high school and once you guys graduate from high school except the challenges that are being put forward ports in front of you by life always act responsibly and always do your best to meet your challenges head-on that being said once again I congratulate you guys out of the class of 2020 and best of luck in all you do hi my name is Amelia check your nausea I am so pleased to welcome back Construction hello everyone it is Our obligation as an educator to prepare our students to be contributing and competitive members in an increasingly glow economy with the exponential growth in science and technology we have to prepare our students for jobs that do not yet exist skill sets such as Innovation and collaboration are are critical to remaining competitive and relevant in the 21st century economy Middle School have committed to creating such learning experiences for our students we also believe that he is bigger than me collectively with the support of you parents and Guardians and community members we have accomplished so much in the past three years however for the class of twenty this is only the beginning of your journey we are so proud of each and every one of our culminating students and look forward to the impact that you will make on our world go JB bears crazy it's like a great honor to welcome I think principal dr. Martinez Debbie bear as you all know we all experienced an unprecedented event this year this event known as a pandemic was caused by a virus which led to covid-19 the action taken by a country to come back to spread of covid-19 resulted in Maine can get your daily routine one of those changes Covina pool the closing of schools resulted in a need for social distancing in order to slow the spread of the virus this shift to the learning from my campus to remote learning online our school was ready to meet this challenge I want to one iPad to Plymouth and they used to schoology and ever they were kept back some delays we have two primary challenges during this transition one was the inevitable system overload which often turn it up a tiny into do I work on schoology and was a challenge and teachers having to teach on my seemingly overnight never the most students and teachers never say that they were dedicated and determined to continue the learning process despite the school closure for this I am grateful to be a principal of such an extraordinary School community I wish express my thanks for the amazing yearbook committee Guided by me sweetie but committed to completing a 2019 2020 yearbook despite the school's closure I would also like to thank the JV student body our parents teachers and leadership team members for overworking helping us to transition to online learning this collective experience of living through a pandemic what teachers are many things about life let's embrace the lessons we learn together as a JB family we accomplished many great things in the first half of the school year worthy of being celebrated and remember no we missed a few Middle School Milestone we now know how important it is to appreciate each friend each staff member each loved one it is not an exaggeration when I say that you have left to one of Rison history's most challenging times let this year school experience serve as a confirmation to you that you Melendez hello class of 2020 we are you a confirmation Melendez and Miss Morgan highest point of your middle school career through what is arguably one of the most difficult times in recent history it took you three years to get here and do you have all along the way the same is true for all Community classes sitting on front steps to find little privacy did it with computers and doom and group chat with your quizzes for papers and taco math problems all on your own you're being something far more important than previous classes you have been tested and you did not falter you kept now you are going to put different role as you move to the next chapter of your life high school but there is one thing that you have your ability to adapt and you and Barb I'm the teacher strike to protest around the world you have persevered take these life lessons and apply them if you can't in your education listen wash your parents teachers counselors and administrators know that you are ready for what lies ahead because you are the great class of 2020 and you do not give up congratulations class of 2020 at now I have a special treat for you a retrospective video of your years here and now here are a few messages from our teachers and community members class of 2020 want to spend congratulations to everyone this is a crazy time we're living in you know we're quarantine would dealing with police brutality and racism and the message I want to give to you as young people during this time is to to be leaders the Innovative you pay with the coronavirus how are you you'll come up with new ways to fight illness fight disease to help you but I don't understand that color is not a reason to be marginalized is going to be you they were going to bring change to adult city and state and across the world so use this time as a learning lesson you all are the first class to ever have to go through a quarantine a graduation where you have to do a virtual you know it's not out to you all for being strong during this time why I want to let you know that this time it short-lived everything comes to an end and they will be greater days in the future just continue to put your keep your heart pure to your your heart and mind in the right place and and remember that help people We Are Family congratulations once again and to all the students that were in on the virtual conference we did when I tapped into Miss mace class thank y'all so much for continuing to show love I love you all and stay in touch during High School just the beginning do great things hey, Nate I know what to say a proper goodbye I take care and do well I hope you had fun.
